Liverpool U21s head coach Barry Lewtas admits it was an honour and an inspiration for his boys to train with new senior signing Federico Chiesa. As he believes the Italy international is a Euro 2024 winner.

Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus just days before the summer transfer window closed. And will therefore need time to build up his fitness and adapt before making his full debut with the first team.

That has prompt the 26-year-old winger to skip Italy’s UEFA Nations League campaign in order to focus on integrating with the Reds’ squad as soon as possible, and a move to the Under-21s during the international break would be a win-win situation for all parties involve.

“We have been helping the first team train for a while now. Their level of professionalism is incredible – the real deal,” he said via the official website.

“Honestly, in the case of Chiesa, you can see his quality throughout his career. That’s why he’s play for one of the best clubs in the world.”

“Excellent footwork skills”

“Giving our kids the opportunity to play with someone of that quality is a great learning opportunity for them.”

“Whenever I come up to help train with the senior team, I always get something good back.”

“The hands-on experience gained from the first-team players and first-team staff is important for the youth.”
