Sassuolo has officially appointed Davide Ballardini as its new football coach on a short-term contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.
The appointment comes five days after Sassuolo parted ways with previous head coach Alessio Dionisi. Who has been in charge of the team since summer 2021

Sassuolo’s hiring of Ballardini came just over a year ago. After his most recent stint at Cremonese, he signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Sassuolo fell into disrepair in the 2023-24 season, despite the club’s promising start. They won over league leaders Inter and second-place Juventus in two consecutive games in September. But then they had to wait until the end of November to win their next league match.
Sassuolo have won just one Serie A game since New Year’s, a 1-0 win over Fiorentina on 6 January.
Sassuolo now find themselves in the relegation zone after losing 1-6 to Napoli on Wednesday. With 20 points from 26 matches and level on points with 17th-place Hellas Verona.
